About Low FODMAP

FODMAP is an acronym for Fermentable Oligosaccharides, Disaccharides, Monosaccharides, and Polyols. These are short-chain carbohydrates found in many foods and food additives that can be hard for some people to digest.

The low FODMAP diet is specifically designed to help patients understand what their bodies can and cannot tolerate. No two individuals will have the same experience. At Epicured we recommend our clients adhere to a low FODMAP diet with the supervision of a clinician. 

It is clinically recommended for people with IBS, Crohn's, Colitis, and Functional Gastrointestinal Disorders to help manage symptoms.

Fiber is very important for maintaining gut health and bowel function even if you have IBS-D. There are different types of fiber, soluble, insoluble and prebiotic fiber. If you have IBS-D, eating foods with more soluble fiber can help bulk up the stool and improve bowel function. We recommend everyone to consult with their doctor and dietitian to find whats best for them. 

We understand that garlic and onion can be a factor for many issues but we have had amazing results with our infused oils which are included in many of our meals. 

Our signature garlic-infused oil and the low FODMAP diet

Our garlic-infused oil offers delicious flavor while still complying to the low FODMAP elimination diet guidelines. Many of our customers are grateful to be able to enjoy garlic flavor and not experience any digestive issues! Because FODMAPs are water-soluble, and water and oil do not mix (Science 101), adding garlic to oil to infuse the flavor  and then removing the garlic flesh will not allow the water-soluble fructans (a type of FODMAP) to leach into the oil. As always, before altering your diet or trying new foods, such as Epicured low FODMAP and gluten free meals, speak with your healthcare provider.  

As a reminder, the low FODMAP elimination diet is not a FODMAP-free diet. The goal of this science-based diet is to reduce the amount of FODMAPs to a level that provides symptomatic relief. Most low FODMAP grains, fruits, and vegetables have small amounts of FODMAPs but are allowed in specific portion levels to comply with the low FODMAP elimination diet guidelines.

To further assist, we also provide a IBD filter on the menu page that only displays menu items that have a much lower chance of further affecting stomach issues and are easier to digest. We have identified certain entrees, side dishes and beverages that may be easier to digest due to their softer textures and lighter ingredients.

We also recommend speaking with your nutritionist if you want to be sure as we value your health above all. 

Please note: these are only suggestions as individuals tolerate ingredients differently. These guidelines should help you navigate the menu when your symptoms increase.

The Epicured Elimination Program

Variety is an important part of your elimination phase. Each diet (omnivore, pescatarian, vegetarian, vegan) includes a menu cycle. The cycle weeks are predetermined and listed on each diet page. Your first shipment will align with the cycle shipping week. Everyone receives the same menu during each cycle week.

  • Omnivore 4 week cycles - each week for 4 consecutive weeks you receive a different bundle configuration. This 4 week cycle repeats after the 4th week.
  • Pescatarian 4 week cycles - each week for 4 consecutive weeks you receive a different bundle configuration. This 4 week cycle repeats after the 4th week.
  • Vegetarian 2 week cycles - each week for 2 consecutive weeks you receive a different bundle configuration. This 2 week cycle repeats after the 2nd week.
  • Vegan 2 week cycles - each week for 2 consecutive weeks you receive a different bundle configuration. This 2 week cycle repeats after the 2nd week.

At this time we are unable to substitute individual items within a cycle. If you have a food allergy we can switch you to a different diet and cycle. For instance, if you are allergic to shellfish. you may want to switch out a Pescatarian cycle that includes shellfish with a Vegetarian cycle that does NOT include shellfish. Please let us know if you need to swap out a cycle by 1PM ET on Fridays.

Each week of your program you will receive a confirmation email & SMS message that your meals are in the queue to be made and delivered on time. You cannot opt-out of this notification.

Shipping is FREE for all program participants. Your program boxes will arrive on the day of the week you select at checkout. You will receive confirmation of your shipping window. The window will be the same every week for the same address.

You may choose to skip 1 week at a time during your program. You can skip up to 2 times during your program. You can change your shipping address from week to week.

We do not offer refunds. If you receive an item that is damaged please let us know right away. We will replace that item immediately. For the safety of every client we do not accept any food back at our facility.

Refunds & Packaging

Epicured has a no return and no refund policy. Once you receive our order renewal confirmation via SMS and Email your order is considered booked and our culinary wheels go into motion.

We cannot accept food back into our facility at any time for any reason. We encourage you to call our customer service team at (888) 861-4541 or email us at service@getepicured.com .

How do I cancel my subscription?

Your Epicured subscription automatically renews seven days prior to your chosen delivery date each week. The renewal is confirmed by an SMS and Email communication. You can switch to a one-time order plan or new frequency anytime through the MANGE PLAN feature located in the top bar of the site. If your order processes prior to you skipping or canceling there is no refund available. 

To avoid processing unwanted orders and/or deliveries we encourage you to setup reminders in your personal calendar. We will send email and SMS reminders.

 

Store credits are added to accounts for various reasons. Store credits are always issued at the account holder level - they are not order specific per se. Store credits are automatically deducted from your orders until you reach a zero balance. You will see your store credit applied at checkout. You can check your store credit balance after you login. Simply navigate to your profile located in the upper right hand corner of your screen and proceed to your profile. Under Profile Settings you will see your Account Credit Balance.

Our Meals And Menu

Our food comes ready to eat. In some cases you will need to reheat items. The instructions are included on each item.

Our food arrives freshly prepared, chilled, and ready-to-eat or heat. We do not ship frozen food.

We deliver our food chilled for 3 important reasons:

  • It helps maximize freshness.
  • It provides greater control over how and when your food is brought up to serving temperature. Nothing needs to sit in a warming container getting soggy on its way to you.
  • We want you to decide when to enjoy your food. You can heat it up as soon as it's delivered or have it a few days later. If your plans change, you can just put meals in the fridge for later. From time to time ice packs appear to be melted, if your order arrives within 24 hours of the scheduled deliver date it is safe to eat. You can always call or email with any questions.

Our current menu is specifically designed for a low FODMAP elimination phase diet. It is recommended that a low FODMAP diet be adhered to under the guidance of a clinician for 2 to 8 weeks. 

Some items are seasonal. We add and subtract meals each month in order to take full advantage of fresh ingredients. Some fan favorites will stay on year-round so be sure to let us know what you love!

Many of our customers do that! Our soups and lasagnas freeze beautifully, as do some of our saucier dishes like our tikka masala. Please navigate to the menu on our site and select the Freezer Friendly filter. The filter selections are located on the left hand side of the menu.

Our menu is carefully curated to adhere to a low FODMAP elimination phase diet. We do not customize menu items. Be sure to check out all of our great built-in variations to accommodate a wide range of diets from vegan - to nut free - to dairy free.

As a reminder a low FODMAP elimination phase diet is ALWAYS gluten free.

Our meals can last in your refrigerator for 3 - 5 days. Each dish is individually labeled with our recommended ""enjoy by"" date. Freezing meals will, of course, increase the longevity of their shelf life.

 

 

Every entree we sell is intended to be a full meal. Many come with sides such as wild rice, mixed greens, or our wonderful carrot purée.

Some components of the dish, like dressings, sauces, cheeses, and rice, come separately packaged, but are clearly marked.

We also provide a small plates option so you can create your own meal by mix and matching our sides and our signature entrees.

You can filter our menu or use our traditional search tool. The filter is located on the left hand side of the menu.

Are there any meals prepared without garlic-infused oil? 

We do understand that garlic infused oil may still be a concern for some of you when navigating your own dietary modifications and our menu sections. If garlic-infused oil contributes to symptoms, this is likely related to another type of food sensitivity and not a FODMAP intolerance issue. Please discuss any food intolerance symptoms you experience with your physician for proper guidance.

We use primarily pure, premium cold pressed extra virgin olive oil.

In general, oils are fats and do not contain FODMAPs. On the Monash University app, they list the following kinds as tested, permitted and given the Green Light:

  • Avocado oil
  • Canola oil
  • Coconut oil
  • Olive oil, pure, virgin and extra virgin
  • Peanut oil
  • Rice bran oil
  • Sesame oil
  • Sunflower oil
  • Vegetable oil

We do create our own low FODMAP ""infused"" oils that have natural onion and garlic flavors. 

Stovetop Instructions: 
For soups: simply put your soup into a pot and cover with a lid and slowly reheat over medium, stirring occasionally until it reaches your desired temp. If you'd like to thin out the soup, you can add water, broth, or a little oil.

For saucy dishes like the curry and tikka masala: add the dish to a small saucepan with a tiny splash of oil in the bottom and reheat over medium until hot, stirring regularly.

For the side components of rice, add to a small pot with a splash or so of water and/or oil, cover, and heat over medium.

For the other entrees like the cod, veggie sides, meatballs, bolognese: add a splash of oil to a pan, cover, and heat on low for a few minutes, stirring or turning regularly.

Oven Instructions: 
Our mac & cheese entree and our frittatas reheat beautifully in the oven and come in oven-safe packaging. Simply preheat the oven to 350 and bake for 15 minutes.

Microwave Instructions: 
We have two types of packaging that is microwavable: the clear plastic soup container and the black entree tray, though the lids should not be microwaved.

All other items requiring reheating should be transferred into your own microwave-safe plate or bowl and covered with a damp paper towel or cloth to preserve moisture and prevent splatters.

Microwave entrees for about 1 minute on high, and then in 30 second intervals until warm, stirring between intervals.

How Ordering Works

All our medically tailored meals are made-to-order. Once your order is processed the kitchen is set in motion. Your first instance of a subscription or a one time order is charged immediately. You can edit this order before noon on Thursday by contacting customer service, [email protected].

After the first instance of your subscription the following instances will be processed and charged every Thursday

You can place an additional one-time order to add an item or you can setup an additional subscription plan to add a day or a different delivery address.

In some circumstances we can make adjustments. It's always a good idea to call us at (917) 260-8506 or email [email protected]

 

We know you have a busy life. Flexibility is key to supporting you through the elimination phase of the low FODMAP diet. 

You can navigate to the MANAGE PLAN(s) section of your account to update your delivery day, frequency and you can also add another subscription to your account. Each subscription has a unique delivery day. 

You can also add one-time items to your order - try something new - it's that easy.

The subscription feature of our site is designed to help you maintain a low FODMAP regime over the course of 2 to 8 weeks. 

You can set up multiple plans to accommodate different delivery days, different addresses or different frequency for certain types of items. For instance you might only want to order the Freezer Filler bundle once a month, you can setup a Freezer Filler Plan for monthly delivery separate from what you might want to order weekly.

After setting up the basics of your account you can shop for the items you want in your first plan. Once you fill your cart you will be prompted to select the delivery day and frequency. Upon checkout you will be charged immediately for your first delivery.

Moving forward every week you will be charged overnight Thursday (eastern). Once your credit card is processed your order is “locked” and non-refundable.

You can cancel orders that have not been charged any time.

Your one-time order and your first subscription order is charged IMMEDIATELY at checkout. Once your card is processed your order is non-refundable.

If you have a subscription your 2nd order onward is charged every Thursday for the coming week. You can Pause or Skip an order as required. Please note: Pause and Skip are not the same feature. 

Skip: Use this feature when you want to skip your order for the upcoming week, be sure to skip BEFORE Thursday 6PM.

Pause: Use this feature when you want to pause your subscription for an extended period of time. NOTE - to start your extended pause you must do so BEFORE Tuesday at 6PM or your coming week's order will not be included in your selected pause range.

Epicured is not a long-term commitment nor a contract of any kind. Any order that HAS NOT already been charged can be canceled at any time. 

 

You can skip, pause or cancel a subscription or plan any time as long as it has not been charged. Simply log in to your account. Click the MANAGE PLAN green button at the top of the page. You can skip, pause or cancel or edit any of your plans. 

Remember as long as your order HAS NOT been charged you can skip, pause, cancel or edit.

Skip: Use this feature when you want to skip your order for the upcoming week, be sure to skip BEFORE Thursday 6PM.

Pause: Use this feature when you want to pause your subscription for an extended period of time. NOTE - to start your extended pause you must do so BEFORE Tuesday at 6PM or your coming week's order will not be included in your selected pause range.

You can edit your upcoming order any time before your card is charged. Your edits include the ability to change your delivery day, frequency or the items in your plan. 

You can also add one-time items to your upcoming delivery if you want to try something new.

We encourage you to take a picture of any item of concern to share with our team. The team at Epicured makes every effort to ensure your food arrives safely and on time. If there is an instance whereby we need to address a concern regarding part or all of your order please reach out to us immediately. We do offer several ways to save on shipping. These offers are extended via our email updates. We use multiple carriers across the continental United States to ensure your made-to-order meals arrive safely.

Tips on getting the most out of your delivery: Meals need to be stored in a refrigerator and/or freezer immediately upon receiving. We also strongly recommend a refrigerator temperature of 34F-36F. If your refrigerator is set to a higher temperature your food can spoil before the expiration date. 

Delivery is available Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays. Your order will be delivered within 24 hours of your chosen delivery date.

Delivery Information

All shipments trigger an email to the email address on the account. The FROM address on the email is: [email protected]. This email may go straight to JUNK/SPAM. Please be sure to move these emails to your inbox for future orders.

No, you do not need to be present at the time of delivery. Your Epicured box can be left at your door without a signature required. Just please be sure to include detailed delivery instructions for us at checkout. According to our delivery drivers, the more details the better.

We can deliver to either your home or your office. Just please be sure that we can access your home/building during your selected delivery window.

Traditional carriers do not pickup on Sunday therefore it is difficult for us to accommodate Monday deliveries. 

To add additional delivery days simply set up an additional plan under the MANAGE PLAN(S) button in the top right of your screen. You can add days, different frequencies, delivery addresses and one-time orders.

Our packaging is designed to keep your products at their proper temperatures. Our packaging works with our delivery system to keep products at their proper temperatures and maintain the quality of your meals up to 48 hours after leaving our facility.

Please note, this may vary based on where the box is kept and the environment in which it is held, once you receive your meals.

We do everything in our power to ensure precision for delivery dates and times. You should expect your box to arrive within 24 hours of your selected date. Available delivery days to get delicious Epicured food to your doorstep vary based on your location!

We deliver via UPS, FEDEX and local carrier service. Your meals are delivered based on your subscription plan selection criteria. Be sure to choose a day between Monday and Thursday that is best for you. You can select multiple delivery days in one week by setting up multiple plans. Each plan has its own delivery day.

Unexpected delays can sometimes occur, but our shipping partners will do their best to deliver your box on your scheduled delivery day. If for any reason your box arrives later than expected: 

  • Check your inbox for an email from Epicured regarding your delivery. This email might include a status update of the delivery, next steps Epicured is taking regarding your delivery, or specific instructions about the freshness of your meals.

When to Wait: 

We communicate proactively about boxes impacted by delays of one or more days. If you are set to receive a delivery via UPS/FEDEX, you will receive a delay notification. This email will provide more information about your delivery and the quality of your meals.

When to Contact Our Support Team: 

We’re more than happy to help you with any delivery issues. We would encourage you to contact us when:

Your UPS/FEDEX tracking information indicates that your box has an exception: an unforeseen event, an incorrect address, or damages which interrupts transit.

  • Your box arrives damaged.
  • You receive additional delivery emails from Epicured and have questions.
  • You did not receive a UPS/FEDEX tracking number. (NOTE: deliveries in the New York metropolitan area are not shipped via UPS.
  • You receive an email stating the box was delivered, and you cannot locate your box.

If you contact us via email, please include the UPS tracking number if applicable. 

Our regular business hours are Monday - Friday 9:00 am - 5:00 pm EST. Weekend delivery inquiries will be answered within 48 hours.

For deliveries made in the New York Metro-area (including parts of NJ and CT), we deliver via a local courier. 

For deliveries made outside of the New York Metro-area, we deliver via UPS or FEDEX.

 

Packaging

We package our meals in Polypropylene (PP) plastic containers. Our PP plastic materials are all recyclable, reusable and dishwasher safe. All Epicured boxes are recyclable. The ice packs are made of a 100% nontoxic and waterproof gel and #4 plastics. The liners are made from PET plastic and are recyclable.

Our ice packs are filled with a gel that is non-toxic and water soluble (but still not meant for human consumption). The manufacturer's recommendation is to put the entire ice pack in the trash. If you wish to recycle, we suggest cutting open the gel pack, squeezing the gel into your regular trash, and recycling the #4 plastic.

The ice packs are also reusable. You can keep them in your freezer for future use. Many organizations will also accept them as a donation. These include local rescue missions and boy scout & girl scout clubs.

Yes, all of our entree packaging is freezer safe.

We package our entrees, bowls, and salads in Polypropylene (PP) plastic containers. Polypropylene is microwaveable (both top & bottom), freezer-safe, and recyclable.

We deliver your meals in boxes lined with insulation made of mixed plastics combined with ice packs to ensure the meals are maintained at the correct temperature throughout the trip and it can be recycled at centers that accept recyclable #7 plastics. Liners

  • We recently introduced a new type of packaging liner  that will help to keep your meals packed fresh for an extended amount of time. These liners are made from PET plastic (fabricated from recycled plastic bottles!) and can itself be reused and recycled. Even better, these liners offer improved temperature control and better protection for your meals while they're in transit.

 

Ice packs

  • Our ice packs are reusable and recyclable. The best way to dispose of them is to allow them to thaw, empty the non-toxic gel into your trash, and then recycle the exterior along with other plastics.

We always recommend undertaking a low FODMAP diet with the supervision and ongoing advice of a clinician. Epicured has a vast network, Epicured's Partners In Health. We can connect you to an accredited provider.

Epicured collaboratively works with physicians and registered dietitians (RD). While our recipes have been reviewed and approved by RDs to be in accordance with the low FODMAP guidelines, this is not a substitute for medical advice from your physician. It is always advisable to consult with your clinicians before starting a new program, particularly if you have a medical condition.

Complying with Diets and Restrictions

Our current nutritional therapeutic line is low FODMAP. We will be launching new medically tailored menus in the coming months. 

Our meals are clinically designed and researched to avoid certain carbohydrates and sugars found in food and food additives which are hard to digest (FODMAPs).

We work with the top dietitians and chefs to ensure that all of our meals are delicious, full of real ingredients, all while remaining 100% low FODMAP to support an elimination diet phase. Low FODMAP recipes are always gluten free.

All Epicured meals are intended to be well-portioned individual servings. You can find the nutritional information for every item on its product page.

Each of Epicured's therapeutic menus is medically tailored to address a specific chronic disease. We strongly recommend you speak with your physician or other clinical professional to determine what meals are right for you. We do list all allergens on each individual product page.

Our facility handles nuts, shellfish, beef, chicken, turkey, fish, grains and seed. 

To be labeled "low sodium",  the meal must contain 140 mg of sodium or less per RACC (reference amount customarily consumed) which is essentially a serving size set by the FDA. 

While we do not classify meals particularly as ""Low Acid"", we do offer meals that would be applicable.
